Jae-Ha Park
Jae-Ha Park was a founding member of the KIF and has been Vice President since 2008. In addition to his current position, he also serves in numerous public roles, such as co-chairman of the Committee for the Internal Assessment of Regulations at the Financial Services Commission (FSC), member of the Committee for the Development of Financial Industries in the FSC, and member of the Management Supervisory Committee at the Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO). He
is also Chairman
of the Board of Directors at Shinhan Bank, one of the largest commercial banks in Korea, and a board member for Daewoo Securities.
After graduating from Seoul National University in 1981, Dr. Park began his career as an economist at the Bank of Korea, where he stayed for five years. He started working at the KIF upon earning his PhD in 1991. He has since served as well in many public capacities, such as Senior Advisor to the Minister of Finance and Economy from 1999-2000, Director General at the Task Force for Economic Restructuring in the Office of the President from 1998-1999, and as a member
of the Presidential
Commission for Financial Reform in 1997-1998. In addition, he has been active on numerous government committees for improving the financial system and developing Korea's financial industry, such as the Subcommittee for Foreign Exchange Policy Advancement under the Financial Hub Promotion Committee from 2005-2007, the Committee for Evaluating the Performance of Public Enterprises from 2004-2007, the Committee for Reform of the Foreign Exchange and Capital Movement System in Korea during 1995, and in financial
policy talks between Korea and the US from 1992-1993.
Dr. Park has also been committed to many positions and projects related to international financial cooperation and integration. Among others, he was chairman of the Voluntary Working Group on a Regional Credit Guarantee Mechanism to develop Asian bond markets in the ASEAN+3 during 2003, and was a member of the Expert Group for the Development of China's Securitization and Credit Guarantee Market in APEC from 2002-2004. He also worked for the Asian Development Bank Institute
(ADBI) in
Tokyo from 2000-2002.
He has written many articles and books on financial reform in Korea, the development of financial institutions and markets, regional financial market development, Asian bond market development, and international finance and money and banking.
Dr. Park was born in 1957. He graduated from Seoul National University in 1981 and received his PhD in Economics from Pennsylvania State University in 1991. He has been married to Dr. Kahee Yi since 1992 and has three sons.
