Sangho Sohn
Sangho Sohn has been a Senior Research Fellow at the KIF since March 2009, after serving as a Deputy Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). He also has previously served as Chief Editor and, later, Vice President at the KIF. He was deeply involved in the formulating of government supervisory policies as Senior Counselor to the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) from July 2001 to June 2003. He has also played an active role as a member on a variety of
government committees, including the Committee for the Development of Financial Industries at the Ministry of Finance and Economy (November 2004-June 2008), the Policy Advisory Committee for the FIU of the Ministry of Finance and Economy (August 2007-June 2008), the Committee for Financial Deregulation Assessment of the Financial Supervisory Commission (August 2005-June 2008), the Committee for Policy Assessment of the Financial Supervisory Commission (April 2005-June 2008), the Management Supervisory Committee
of KAMCO (August 2007-June 2008), the Subcommittee of the Public Fund Oversight Committee (July 2005-February 2008), the Financial Hub Promotion Committee (November 2005-April 2007), the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning (Jun. 2003-Nov. 2004), the Committee for Management Evaluation for the Office of Bank Supervision (October 2000-December 2000).
He also brings ample private sector experience as a non-executive Director of Shinhan (LG) Credit Card Company (March 2004-June 2008), a member of the Advisory Committee for the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea (March 2004-February 2007), a member of the Credit Risk Assessment Committee of Hana Bank (Jul. 2003-December 2005), non-executive Director of Chohung Bank (March 2001-June 2001), advisor to the Korea Credit Analysts Association (August 1999-March 2001).
He was involved twice (1998 and 2000) in the post-currency crisis bank restructuring process as a member of the Committee for Management Evaluation for ailing banks.
Dr. Sohn also has been active in academic associations, serving as Vice President of the Korea Money and Finance Association (July 2007-June 2008), and as a director of the Korean Finance Association (KFA) (January 2007-Present). He has authored more than 20 papers on financial and economics issues, including "An Analysis of Leverage in the Korean Economy" (2010), "Establishing an Internal Control System for Financial Institutions in Korea" (2005),

Sector" (2001), "A Study on Exit Arrangement of Financial Institutions" (2000), "A Study on the Development of Bank Trust" (2000), "Case-Study Book to Apply New Loan Classification Method" (1999), "Suggestions to Rehabilitate Ex-post Credit Management" (1999), and "New Plans for Asset Classification and Provisioning" (1999). He has received an Official Commendation from the FSC, and a Merit Award from the KIF.
Dr. Sohn was born in 1957. He received his BA from Korea University, and MA and PhD degrees from the Ohio State University. He has been married since 1984 and has two sons, now university students. His hobbies include listening to classical music and hiking.
